With most films avoiding steep price hikes, audiences have seemingly been more willing to step into theatres more frequently. Recent releases such as Korean Kanakaraju, Chennai Love Story, Lenin and Maa Inti Bangaram have benefited from this audience-friendly approach.
The Pricing Advantage
The biggest advantage of affordable pricing is simple: audiences can watch more films. In Andhra Pradesh, multiplex tickets for films following regular pricing can be around ₹177, while similar reasonable rates have been adopted by several recent releases. Rao Bahadur, for instance, was released with multiplex tickets capped at ₹177 in Andhra Pradesh and ₹200 in Telangana. The encouraging response to such pricing has strengthened the argument that lower ticket costs can increase theatrical footfalls and potentially benefit producers, exhibitors and distributors alike.
The shift away from dynamic pricing has been particularly noticeable. Audiences, who were earlier hesitant to pay inflated rates for mid-budget films, are now returning to theatres more regularly. Vishwanath & Sons, Makutam, Agada and Pallaburusu could all benefit if the current pricing structure continues, particularly if they offer content that audiences genuinely want to experience on the big screen. Interestingly, Chiranjeevi recently echoed the broader sentiment at the Korean Kanakaraju success meet, arguing that audiences will continue coming to theatres when films provide compelling content. The recent box-office performance suggests that affordable tickets combined with good content could be a powerful formula for sustaining TFI’s theatrical momentum.
